‘ASYMMETRICAL GREEN IN GREEN’

I had originally planned to design in a symmetrical order… but after seeing the 5 or 7 Savoy cabbages in the lower part of the structure, I decided to go more asymmetrical and go lighter.  It really helps to start the creative process when you sketch what is on your mind.  The most difficult part is in the planning of the size, to calculate the relationship between part of the design.  Sometimes it helps to measure the dimensions of your plant materials with a pen or hand or fingers to get an approximate size in the planning of the complete dimension.

This work is placed in a very thin structure with iron rods (0.6cm), strongly connected. This creates a big Tension with the weight of cabbage (Brassica oleracea capitata, variegate sabada).

The shape of this cabbage is so interesting… the extroverted outer leaves and its wonderful patterning…

The heads of the cabbage are pushed down on iron pins, which are welded to the structure.

On the left side of the structure are thin iron rods to design the Phalaenopsis, Ranunculus, Casuarinas, moss-covered branches and some leaves.

Lepismium bolivianum, a hanging Cactus still with its roots are balled with some soil, in fresh sphagnum moss, wrapped with oxidizable wire.

Most of the watertubes are wired in both directions on the 2 (1.8mm strong wires) wrapped with papercovered wire.

The flower works has a softly hanging, floating effect – in the asymmetrical styling where one side is bigger than the other.  Here, the upper floating part dominates.

This work displays a full dose of GREEN expressed at a high degree of VITALITY.

I think that this kind of combination of vegetables and tropicals connected by the Color Theme, and to bring the story of diversity in comparative shapes, forms, texture and more… was the intentional definition across the elements of inspiration.

This is the best way to make Decorativ Wild Combinations UNDERSTANDABLE, acceptable.

There is a mutual connection throughout this story….  GREEN, GREEN, GREEN.

At the end…. Hitomi and I ask ourselves…   What is our INSPIRATION, Headline for our design?

So ask yourself…. What is your INSPIRATION for your design?  What drives YOU toward a certain design direction?  In your design thinking process, there should be this question present always in your mind.

It was helpful that Hitomi wrote the big list of SPRING inspired words in the GREEN TALKS file.  They are like landmarks of orientation on a JOURNEY of Rationality and Free Flow of feeling for your Creation.

At the end of the day,  the target is… that the Beholder understands your message.

‘DIAGONAL SCREEN’

This work is absolutely in Color GREEN, to include all green flowers.

This piece could be perfect for room decoration, in a modern setting – Modern Rustic Interior: concrete wall, high-tech furniture.

This is the perfect progression for GREEN TALKS, following the first session focused on the waxy inner texture of tulips and Liliaceae family, the flowers that inspire Primavera. ‘Wax to Wax’ touching the inner surface of a tulip and replicating that feel in the container and surface treatment – in other design elements.

Now, also following WOOD TALKS of fall season and its woody stage of botanicals, in contrast to GREEN TALKS and its focus on the herbaceous stage in Primavera.

In this session, our headline reflects…

Freshness…      like vegetables, crunchy and crisp

Spreading the message of Vitality and good Health

Thinking of all the salad greens and fresh produce… Cabbage, spinach, sprouts

And Alliums of all kinds…. Asian kitchen is rich with these produce for inspiration

GREEN…          As an awakening color symbol, especially for SPRING

I am excited to introduce the combination of green flowers and the freshness of vegetables as my contribution to the GREEN TALKS Session 2. In both designs for this session include approximately 30% vegetables.

I am looking back to several exhibitions/big shows I presented…. Decorating and presenting vegetables for the Rhein region Vegetable Association… using their product not in geometrical planting on the ground, on hills, pyramids or even baskets… But in a highly Decorativ Floristry.  Grouped in giant bouquet type arrangements – all gathered together with split bamboo sticks on clean organic base with hay and moss.  It was an innovative successful design in the spirit of the time.  It put me on a path to more different works with vegetables.

Now, today… vegetables again, but in another context, different combinations.

This time combined with green flowers – with tropicals like the green Cymbidium Orchid with their quiet forms, unlike the fussy and feathery petals of carnations … also green Ranunculus, Gomphocarpus, etc.

Green Color message is the most important focus in these works.

Very interested in creating a certain calm expression – I organized the flowers in Order of Rows.  Vertical row of Brussel Sprouts – we call them Rose Cabbage, because of its size and form.  They are relevant to the season – late winter, early spring.

Asparagus is a significant element of inspiration also, its calm and straight linear form to add another pattern to this design.

The general linear flow of this work is an upward diagonal – this results in a dynamic expression.  The word DYNAMIC communicates Energy, which can be directionally projected.  The rectangular frame, the outside silhouette of the works is built with 1cm diameter strong iron rods.

All the elements are attached on fresh green bamboo sticks harvested from the garden with wire (1.6mm strong black stub wire).

The water tubes are wrapped with paperwire on 1.8mm wires X2 to be able to stand straight in their position.  They reach out to the left of the frame… this is very practical, to be able to move into its best position as you design (bendability inspired by silkflowers on wire).

Cascading Casuarinas provide Movement, falling straight down … it creates Harmony with the vertical bars of the structure.

Also used some Cornus stolonifera, which is more green than yellow – early in the year.  It provides the green thin straight lines to extend the diagonal nature of the design.
